April Events on Hilton Head Island That You’ll Want to Add to Your Calendar

There’s a lot going on in April! So much so, that we thought we’d create a comprehensive list of fun events that you won’t want to miss out on. There are also a lot of ongoing events that last through May or even further out that you’ll want to keep on your radar.

April 8th, 2024: Total Solar Eclipse

The Town of Hilton Head Island is included in the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. Although the island is not on the path of totality, there will still be a 74.6% sun obscuration that will be starting at 1:51pm. The moment it reaches it’s max will be at 3:08pm EDT, so set your timers!

Never look at the sun directly. Make sure to grab a pair of solar-viewing glasses if you’re interested in witnessing this cosmic event to prevent damage to your eyes.

April 13th, 2024: Plaid Nation 5K Run/Walk

Sign up for the 2nd Annual Plaid Nation 5K, an event that not only kicks off the RBC Heritage Week but benefits the Heritage Classic Foundation.

Registration is online only, and the cut-off is on Wednesday, April 10th at 11:59pm. Click here to sign up. Packets may be picked up on April 12th from 1:00pm to 6:00pm at the Palmetto Running Company storefront in the Shelter Cove Towne Centre, or before the race begins.

The race begins and ends at Lowcountry Celebration Park, with the Plaid Nation After Party and Festival located at the BANK Beer Garden directly afterward. Participants will receive a finishers medal, t-shirt, and swag bag. Those over 21 will be gifted a free beer sponsored by Michelob Ultra. 2 free entries to the RBC Heritage Practice round are also included with registration. April 15-22, 2024: RBC Heritage

Join Plaid Nation for some great golf and fun festivities. Opening ceremonies for the 56th playing of the RBC Heritage start on Tuesday, April 16th, with the traditional parade featuring members of the Heritage Classic Foundation, tournament volunteers, 2023 champion, Matt Fitzpatrick, and more.

April 20th, 2024: Hilton Head Bazaar

Held every third Saturday of the month from 5-8pm, this Lowcountry Made market will now be held at The Bank on the south end of Hilton Head Island. Stop by to shop from local artisans as well as enjoy live music, food, and drinks. Visit Lowcountry Made’s website to learn more about these events!

April 22nd, 2024: Earth Day Island Wide Clean Up

Join The Outside Foundation for a litter clean up of all 12 miles of beach and other natural spaces on Hilton Head Island to celebrate the 54th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22nd. Organize your own litter sweep and energize your friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances to join you!

Register your sweep here and we will provide clean-up supplies and stickers for your event. If you would prefer to join an existing event, check to see all registered events published on the event’s webpage.

April 27-28, 2024: Art Market at Historic Honey Horn

This annual art market will feature works by 100+ artists that cover a wide variety of mediums such as ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, metalwork, painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and more! Rain or shine, join in on the fun and explore the artists’ booths, listen to some great live music, and grab a bite to eat from local favorite food trucks.

The market will be open from 10am-5pm on the 27th, and 10am-4pm on the 28th. Admission is $5 per person, and tickets can be purchased here. Children aged 12 and under are complimentary. Parking is also complimentary. Feel free to explore the Coastal Discovery Museum and other areas of the Honey Horn Property while you’re there!

April 27th, 2024: Italian-American Club Bocce Tournament

The Italian-American Club’s annual Bocce Tournament will be held at Shelter Cove Community Park between 9am and 4pm, and players of all skill levels are invited to join in on the fun! Bring a partner, or register by yourself and get paired with another player at the event.

Bocce Ball is a fun sport for everyone, and children 10+ years old are invited to join the tournament. Not a player? Bring a chair to cheer on the teams! Our guess is that you’ll want to try playing the sport once you see how fun it is!

Once tournament play has ended, enjoy lunch and celebrate the winners, runners-up, and 3rd place team as they receive their trophies.

Tickets are $50/team or $25/person, and $20/each for children 10-16 years.

April 28th, 2024: Earth Day 5K & Festival

Hosted by the Palmetto Running Company, and benefitting The Outside Foundation, the 2nd annual Hilton Head Earth Day 5K will be held on the beautiful, Coligny Beach. It’ll be $35 for adults and $20 for children 12 & under, and there will be no race day registration, so register online, here. The first 300 runners will receive an Earth Day 5K race t-shirt. Pick up your packets as soon as you’re able, as your specific shirt size is not guaranteed.

Following the race, all are welcome to attend this FREE non-profit event where families and friends of all ages can learn about what they can do to make a difference in the Lowcountry, participate in the trash clean up as well as the Recycled Art Table.

Ongoing Events:

Tuesdays: Hilton Head Farmers Market

9am-1pm at the Coastal Discovery Museum

The Hilton Head Farmers Market is a great gathering spot for the community. Local vendors and small businesses offer products ranging from produce, various meats, seafood, baked goods, and breads along with prepared foods and other goods. Easy to find and free to attend, check out what vendors are often in attendance here.  

Wednesdays: Coastal Country Night Line Dancing

Music starts at 7pm and lessons start at 7:30 at The Rooftop Bar

Head to the Rooftop Bar above the popular restaurant, Poseidon, located in Shelter Cove Towne Centre if you want to dance the night away. Every Wednesday night (unless there’s a private event taking place, so check the schedule beforehand) you can hit the dance floor and learn how to line dance starting at 7:30pm. Stay past 10pm for a DJ Dance Party!

Thursdays: Music & Taste on the Harbour

Select Thursday Nights, 6-9pm at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina

Back for another season, Music & Taste on the Harbour is a pet-friendly outdoor concert series that features great local bands along with delicious specially-priced light appetizers, wine, beer, and cocktails by Shelter Cove Harbour restaurants.

There will be limited seating, so bring your own chairs if you can! But please, leave the coolers and outside food/beverages at home.

Saturdays: Hilton Head Community Market

9:30am-12:30pm at Shelter Cove Community Park

A great way to spend your morning and purchase unique crafts and goods from local farmers, makers, bakers, and more, the Hilton Head Community Market is organized by four local business owners and Island Rec. As a plus, the market gives back to the community as 50% of all vendor fees collected are donated monthly to the featured nonprofits, which you can read about here. The Nonprofit of the month of April will be the Sea Turtle Patrol HHI.

April 24-May 26, 2024 at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina

Tony and Grammy Award-winning productionBeautiful: The Carole King Musical, allows its theater audience to follow along through Carole King’s life and career.

Known as one of America’s most beloved and prolific songwriters, King’s journey starts in Brooklyn and continues to Los Angeles, where she navigates her newfound fame and becomes an icon in music history and the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. Beautiful really does take its audience on the journey of a lifetime!

This musical features over two dozen pop favorites such as “You’ve Got a Friend,” “One Fine Day,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” and more!

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is best for ages 11 and up.
