Something to See: The Shelter Cove Sculpture Trail

Hilton Head Island has many different types of parks. Community parks, neighborhood parks, sports parks, beaches—yes, those count as parks too—big or small, the island prioritizes the natural landscape and sense of community as much as they can. Regardless of what the park’s purpose holds, more times than not, you will stumble across a piece of artwork lovingly crafted by a local artist.

This has been somewhat of the norm for Hilton Head, but it’s always exciting to see new pieces pop up in public places. For example, the Shelter Cove Sculpture Trail is now complete, having had its grand opening at the beginning of May 2023.

The pathway connecting the Veterans Memorial Park and Shelter Cove Community Park has always been a beautiful place to walk or bike through, but now those who find themselves on the trail can stop and admire the wonderful sculptures that show a unique side of the Lowcountry.

The trail is easy to walk through and is suitable for all ages—picture all the other bike paths you’ve seen on the island. Go for a morning coffee run and walk with a refreshing cold brew in hand, or wander the path at sunset after a delicious dinner at one of the many restaurants within Shelter Cove Towne Centre. This specific community park is where you’d catch the seasonal Movie Nights as well as Summer Jams and Fireworks.
