Need to plan a holiday to fight off the mid-winter blues? If chilly weather just isn’t your thing, and you want to plan a trip to somewhere sunny and warm to make it through the winter season, we’ve created this list of warm-weather destinations that you can travel to using your Palmera Vacation Club membership.
This list is in addition to our personal favorite destination, Hilton Head Island. You’re always welcome to visit us back on the island, and it’ll probably be the easiest trip to plan since Palmera’s 6 Ways to Travel makes booking your trip a breeze. But just in case you’ve already got a trip to Hilton Head on the books, we thought you’d like to learn more about other destinations in the United States and beyond.
Cancun, Mexico
Catch Cancun at its driest and arguably its best weather when you book your trip during the winter season. The average highs from December to February stay in the low 80s, allowing for perfect beach days full of laying out in the sun and splashing around in the water. Speaking of water, it will stick to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, a small drop from its summertime temperature of 83 degrees.
While humidity levels will be down, the number of visitors to the area won’t be. It’s no secret that winter is the best time to visit Cancun, Mexico, making it the busiest time to visit as well. And before that sounds like a dealbreaker to you, travelers usually stay in an all-inclusive resort, or at least a resort that offers the basics: a pool, beach access, and a way to book excursions and activities for your group. Unlike cities and other destinations where crowds can put a damper on your vacation, a trip to Cancun is often organized, allowing you to fit in as much adventures as you want, but also letting you relax and enjoy the resort and scenery at your own pace.
Palm Springs, CA
Need to make a brief switch from cold and damp to warm and dry? Sunny Southern California might be an easy fix but look specifically into Palm Springs for a warm-weather getaway. Both the RCI Exchange and your Quest Travel Club membership will make planning a trip to Hollywood’s Playground a piece of cake.
Perfect for travelers who enjoy warm weather more than hot weather—think sticking to the 70s for highs—Palm Springs offers plenty of outdoor activities like hiking through the beautiful canyons, preserves, and surrounding desert landscape, playing a game of tennis or pickleball, or golfing on one of the 110 courses. With Palm Springs being a premier destination for wellness in SoCal, visitors also look forward to taking advantage of the many spas in the area, including spring-fed spas.
Scottsdale, AZ
While Arizona as a whole has varied landscapes and climates, the state’s desert regions are further broken into four different parts, all with unique temperatures and unique appeals to visitors themselves! One of the largest cities and popular destination is Phoenix, located in the Sonoran Desert. The city of Scottsdale is considered a suburb of the Capital, and attracts many travelers on its own, especially during the winter months.
Scottsdale’s comfortable weather is a big draw for visitors escaping snow and slush, especially for people who enjoy exploring the great outdoors. Similar to Palm Springs, Scottsdale is a massive hub for golfers and has championship courses that will challenge golfers at any skill level. Desert hikes and biking trails are best done in the winter months, while many visitors tend to indulge in all that their resort has to offer. Explore the charming historic downtown without breaking a sweat, and dine at local eateries ranging in cuisine and price points.
Galveston, TX
Head to this island during the winter season, and it might be your new favorite tradition! This popular cruise port also makes for a great getaway when you’re sick and tired of freezing temperatures and snow. The island has 32 miles of beaches that offer gorgeous views of the Gulf of Mexico, and while winter in this region isn’t hot, you’ll be able to enjoy milder temperatures that make outdoor activities enjoyable. Galveston is also known for its holiday magic, which starts as early as November!
Winter in Galveston means lower lodging rates and fewer crowds. You’ll be able to do everything on your to-do list and more with fewer wait times for activities and restaurants. In addition to peaceful walks along the beach, Galveston’s major attractions are open year-round, so you’ll have lots to do! The island also has one of the largest collections of Victorian architecture in the United States, as well as a historic downtown that you’ll want to explore.
Florida
Ok, ok, we know that the whole state of Florida can’t be a destination, but if we listed all of the places in Florida that we wanted to, most of this list would fill up super-fast. So, think of these three destinations as a bonus!
If you’re traveling with family, think about taking a trip to Orlando, Florida. Its central location will allow you to have some fun in the sun and let you have the option of taking day trips to other cities and beaches. Aside from barely needing a jacket, travelers love Orlando in the wintertime because various theme parks celebrate the holidays with fun decorations and special events.
St. Augustine, Florida, a city along Florida’s Historic Coast, is also a great choice for not only families, but all types of travelers. St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights have been recognized by National Geographic as one of the best holiday light displays in the world. From the end of November until the end of January, visitors can enjoy beautiful, sunny days exploring the city and beach, and then discover the breathtaking display at night.
At the very southern end of the state—and the United States—you’ll find pleasant weather and tropical beach views on the Florida Keys. Winter is a dryer season for this region, and you’ll be able to enjoy water temperatures in the mid-70s, so definitely pack your swimming gear! Visitors will also be able to attend one of the various scheduled festivals and events like Mile 0 Fest, Florida Keys Seafood Festival, Key West Food & Wine Festival, and more.
