Throughout the month of June, the United States celebrates the great outdoors\u2013specifically,\u00a0you<\/em>\u00a0getting out and exploring it. For many families, summer vacation means getting the chance to break the everyday cycle of staying mostly indoors to either work or study and finding opportunities to get some sun and fresh air. While sometimes it\u2019s nice to lounge around catching up on your favorite TV show, join us in celebrating National Get Outdoors Month by finding fun outdoor activities or exploring new places with your friends and family.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re visiting Hilton Head Island this June, you\u2019ll have no problems at all finding ways to get outside. The island is truly an outdoor lover\u2019s paradise, and it shines the brightest in warmer weather. From the pristine beaches to the convenient public pathways, and even to the local marinas, one can argue that HHI is the best<\/em> place to celebrate National Get Outdoors Month and the following national and international days of celebration:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Fishing and Boating Week<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

June 1st:<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

National Trails Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day<\/strong> highlights the importance of <\/strong><\/a>local trails<\/strong> <\/a>and celebrating the people who use and maintain them. And that means all sorts of trails, including those meant for walking, hiking, biking<\/a>, and even horseback riding.<\/strong> Most importantly, they hope to encourage more people to get out and explore them, while also leaving them better than they found them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The island is also surrounded by nearby <\/strong>state parks, wildlife refuges, and nature preserves<\/strong> <\/a>if you decide to explore off island. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

June 5th:<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

World Environment Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This global platform is held annually and engages more than 150 countries from around the world to inspire not only the protection but also the restoration of the Earth.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United Nations Environment Programme first held this event in 1973, featuring a different host and theme each year ever since.\u00a02025’s World Environment Day will be hosted by the Republic of Korea,<\/strong> and its focus is on on ending plastic pollution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

June 8th:<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

World Ocean Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the name of\u00a0taking action for a healthy ocean as well as a stable climate<\/strong>, the mission of World Ocean Day is to the point and engages everyone around the globe.\u00a0This year’s theme is “Sustainable Fishing Means More…!”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join many organizations and a growing group of youth leaders in addition to the Youth Advisory Council, to bring awareness to protecting our oceans. A big part of what makes Hilton Head Island a paradise for so many visitors, the ocean provides so much for us. The least we can do it try to keep it as clean and healthy as possible!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

June 15th:<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

National Marina Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In honor of the many marinas throughout the country that are key players in local economies and communities in general,<\/strong> many regions tend to celebrate National Marina Day longer than just on the 15th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Marina Days happens from Memorial Day to Labor Day,<\/strong>\u00a0when summertime attracts both locals and visitors alike to the water.\u00a0On Hilton Head Island, our Marinas are buzzing with events and entertainment, like Shelter Cove\u2019s HarbourFest and weekly fireworks<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

June 16th:<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

World Sea Turtle Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

June on Hilton Head Island sees the return of nesting Loggerhead Sea Turtles in growing numbers. Sea Turtle Season technically starts in May and lasts until October, but nest counts tend to jump up exponentially, and it\u2019s important to keep the beach clean, free from barriers like holes and sandcastles, and as dark as possible at night to protect nesting turtles.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sea Turtle Day is every day on Hilton Head,<\/a><\/strong> but because sea turtles are endangered, World Sea Turtle Day highlights the importance of protecting these creatures from ocean plastics, light pollution, and other threats.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This summer, attend a Turtle Talk on Monday evenings hosted by the Hilton Head Island Sea Turtle Patrol.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\r\n\t\t
