  Hilton Head Island’s beautiful beaches and lush lowcountry beckon visitors to stay active during their stay. Active travelers seek out this low country paradise for year round fitness opportunities. Balmy temperatures during the winter months and the winds off the ocean and tree lined shaded paths in the warmer months provide amazing opportunities for swimming, cycling and running outdoors. Beaches: Our beautifully kept beaches provide an unforgettable landscape for early morning runs, beach cycling and open water swims! Twelve miles of firmly packed, level sandy beaches allow for incredible training opportunities. So bring your running shoes, bikes and swim goggles!! Cycling:  Hilton Head Island has been recognized as one of the “Best Bicycling Communities” in the United States! It also boasts “Gold Level” status for being a bicycle friendly community.    blog-pic-rideOur network of bike paths allow for hours of island cycling. Families can safely commute to and from beaches, restaurants and shopping.  Hilton Head also has a large road cycling community. Load that road bike or tri bike and bring it down! Whether you are training for an upcoming cycling event, triathlon or cycling for fitness, our cycling community welcomes you.  There are ample group rides a week. These  rides accommodate beginner to advanced cyclists and range in distances from 20- 80 miles.  Bike Doctor, RoadFish Bike Shop, Go Tri Sports. Road bike rentals are also available at Bike Doctor and Roadfish Bike Shop Also, if you come across one of those rare rainy days on Hilton Head Island, you can head on over to the newly opened Cyclebar.  Shoes are provided, so just bring your determination and keep up the good work. Running: Palmetto Running Company hosts at least one group run a week. In the summer months they also have an additional run every Wednesday from the World of Beer and a free 5K the last Wednesday of the month from Whole Foods. All paces and distances are welcome. Each Saturday the group meets at a different scenic location. Join the fun and camaraderie of runners from all over the world! The Island Recreation Center pool has lap swim hours available 7 days a week with a Masters Swim Club that welcomes visitors Monday – Friday. Check out one of our local races or plan your vacation around it! From 5K’s, marathons, sprint triathlons, kids triathlons and everything in between, this island is home to an active racing community.
