Great Eats On Hilton Head Island – Local Pie

You may not think of pizza as a staple of Hilton Head Island cuisine, but Local Pie has made a solid move in changing that thought process. These wood fired pizzas are nothing short of delicious and their unique menu with pie and not-pie selections is sure to make your mouth water. No matter where you are in the world, if you’re enjoying a good pizza with the family you’re in for a good time – it just helps if you’re on vacation and you’ve got one of the most unique joints in the Lowcountry to stop by!

We reached out to Local Pie so they could share their story with you.

What was the inspiration behind opening the first and only true Neapolitan style wood-fired pizza restaurant on Hilton Head?

There was a need on the Island and we had the concept and the experience to fill it! Chef Lee Lucier grew up slinging dough on the Jersey Shore and felt that the Hilton Head community was missing out on the experience of a true Neapolitan style wood-fired pizza. It’s a lighter, crispier pie that is different from the thick crust and heavy sauce style of pizza that most are accustomed to. Our pizza, for most, is a totally new experience.

Why is it important to Local Pie to focus on sustainability and the Green Initiative?

We believe that sustainability and supporting the local community is something that EVERYBODY should be focusing on. For us, it’s not a question of why. It is an imperative. When you dine at Local Pie your patronage goes towards local owners, local employees, local farmers, and local suppliers. These are people who truly understand the Island and what makes our community great!

Most people come to the beach and expect to eat seafood every night. Why would you say that Local Pie is worth making a stop by, even though it isn’t going to be the typical beach restaurant you would expect to visit?

Is it weird that we want pizza every night of our own beach trips? We believe pizza is universal. Whether it be post-beach, after your kid’s baseball game, or just a busy night when you don’t want to cook, pizza is always there for you. And wood-fired pies are different from the norm, so consider it a vacation from your normal pizza!
