Baby, It’s Warm Outside

Keeping the holiday spirit alive even when there’s no snow in sight

The holiday season is a magical time, but for many of us in warmer climates, there is no sparkly snow, no crackling fire, and no cozy scarves and sweaters (at least without breaking into a furious sweat by 2pm). It can be tough to keep up your Christmas cheer when it’s warm and balmy out, especially if you’ve experienced those magical chilly winters. Well we’re here to help you amp up the spirit all season long.

Frozen hot chocolate is a huge trend this year! Just as tasty as classic hot cocoa and pairs well with extra marshmallows. You can add a little extra holiday cheer for the grownups with some Bailey’s, Kahlua or Peppermint Schnapps. Try one of these recipes…

Attend or Host a “Snow Day”

You really can have Christmas in paradise. Hilton Head Island has one of the best “snow days” around, with a generator that produces real snow for kids to enjoy. In addition to the “snow field,” there are inflatable rides, live entertainment, and face painting, so you’ve got a full day of activities. If there are no “Snow Days” in your area, you can rent a generator from SnoWonder and throw your own snowy holiday party!

Sandy Snowmen

Who says you can’t have a perfect beach day in December? Pack a bag with some holiday treats and get the whole family to build a sandy snowman! Get creative with decorations… sunglasses, a Hawaiian shirt, maybe a boogie board. You can even turn it into a competition. Once you’re finished, it’s also the perfect photo opportunity for next year’s Christmas card. To top it off, you get to enjoy a fun beach day without the crowds.

Not-So “Cold and Rainy” Movie Night

Even if it’s 70 and sunny, plan a super cozy evening to snuggle up and watch movies. Close the curtains turn the heat off or kick the air conditioning up a notch and have everyone bundle up in holiday pajamas. If you really want the FULL effect – you can use the website www.rainymood.com to get the perfect stormy ambiance. Make some hot cocoa and popcorn, and let the marathon begin.

Movies we love: Elf, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, A Christmas Story, Home Alone, and The Santa Clause

Go Extra on Your Holiday Decorationsscreen-shot-2017-12-06-at-2-55-04-pm

You may not be able to have a real fire in the fireplace, but that doesn’t mean you can’t turn your home into a true winter wonderland. Instead of just decorating a tree, have a marathon craft-party and make a ton of DIY holiday decorations. Garland, snowflakes, string lights, you name it. The Target dollar section always has a bunch of festive décor, so you can get a lot of goodies without dropping too much cash.
